I should have stayed in bed

I didn't get far in my new book this morning. I could blame the busdriver, who was amazingly shite, but I think this time it's the author's fault.

About ten pages in, a character complains "He should of been here hours ago."

Does this person have a speech impediment? A bad accent? Is he speaking the language of hell? Or is he part of the over the top humour that I'm not sure I'm into yet?

Either way, it totally fucked up my concentration and I couldn't continue reading.

Grumble.

Yep. A bestseller even, if I'm not mistaken. I keep thinking I misread it, but nope: it's there, printed on the page. I was too tired on the way back home to see if there was a punchline. I'm gonna try again tomorrow.

Ok, read a couple more pages today... apparently it was to indicate an accent, because further into the story the character is using even more awful expressions. Based on the style of writing so far I'd say the author was also thinking it was a good joke. Well, he got me. Ha.Ha. *glares*
